4.2 million to University of Miami football from Mary Hecht

Mary B. Hecht died nearly 30 years ago. But Thursday, the University of Miami announced an amazing gift from her: a $4.2 million donation to the athletics program to fund scholarships for football players.

The donation fulfilled “a promise she made some 35 years ago in her last will and testament,” according to a release sent by the university. The gift could not be executed until the recent death of the income beneficiary of her estate.
