Comparing Running/Passing Game since 2004

Per ESPN Running Offense as a Team (leading rusher) 2004 - 1572 (Frank Gore) 2005 - 1651 (Tyrone Moss) 2006 - 1508 (Javarris James) 2007 - 1747 (Graig Cooper) 2008 - 1680 (Graig Cooper) 2009 - 1794 (Graig Cooper) 2010 - 2372 (Damien Berry) 2011 - 1748 (Lamar Miller) 2012 - 1737 (Duke Johnson) 2013 - 1890 (Duke Johnson) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now, 2013's season, with at least two games to go, may only get about 2100 total rushing yards. As it stands, however, yards per carry is higher (5.1 to 4.8) and overall touchdowns are higher as well (22 to 19). Finally, in 2010, we ran the ball 494 times, and we passed the ball an amazing 443 times. In contrast, this year, only 329 pass attempts and 373 carries. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This implies that our running game is better overall than anything we've fielded since 2002. Sadly, ESPN stats don't go farther back. But true fans will remember the frustration revolved around Brock Berlin and Frank Gore, who just weren't great college players. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Passing Game as a team (leading passer) 2004 - 2812 (Brock Berlin) 2005 - 2586 (Kyle Wright) 2006 - 2567 (Kyle Wright) 2007 - 2034!!! (Kyle Wright) 2008 - 2558 (Robert Marve) 2009 - 3405 (Jacory Harris and 17 INTS) 2010 - 3105 (Jacory Harris and 15 INTS) 2011 - 2705 (Jacory Harris) 2012 - 3545 (Stephen Morris) 2013 - 2996 (Stephen Morris and 12 INTS) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ If Morris can do the impossible and not throw an INT for the rest of the year, it is possible for the U's passing game to be close to 2012's total (just 2 300 yard games away). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I don't think the passing game is at Dorsey's level yet. For instance, even though Berlin threw 6 INT's in 2004, his completion percentage was 56%. Similarly, Morris in 2012 threw 7 INT's with a 58.2 completion percentage. Did you think that Jacory Harris would have the best completion percentage in U history since Dorsey? 65% in 2011. But where were the yards, the touchdowns, the big plays? Harris played every game not to give away the game. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Our offense is better statistically than any year in the last ten. Props to James Coley even though some us want to criticize him. http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/stats/_/id/2390/year/2011/miami-fl-hurricanes
