On Friday, the Canes welcomed the Hokies to The Light and took game 1 11-9. Starting pitcher Chris Diaz picked up the win going 8 innings while giving up just 2 earned runs and striking out six. The Canes were lead offensively by freshmen David Thompson and Ricky Eusebio. Thompson was 2-4 with 3 RBIs and Eusebio was 1-2 with 3 RBIs as well as 2 walks. Diaz improved his record to 3-1 and Eric Nedeljkovic earned his 5th save while recording the last out of the game with a strikeout.
On Saturday, the Canes won 2-0 behind a dominant performance by Bryan Radziewski. Radziewski pitched a complete game shutout while giving up just 2 hits and striking out 16. His 16 Ks were the most for a Hurricane pitcher since Joe Grahe struck out 18 back in 1989. Radziewski was named ACC Pitcher of the Week. Every Virginia Tech hitter struck out at least once. Offensively, the best hitter of the night was Chris Barr, who went 2-4 with a triple and an RBI.
On Sunday, the Canes dropped the series finale to Virginia Tech losing 8-5 in 10 innings. Miami was trailing for most of the game until they tied it in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at five. Garrett Kennedy and Grant Heyman each had an RBI single to even the game. The game stayed tied until the Hokies struck for 3 runs in the top of the 10th to decide the game. Aj Salcines took the loss going 2 innings while giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits in 2 innings.
The Canes will return to action Wednesday night at 6 as they welcome FAU for a mid-week game.
