Matt Goudis
Junior - K - 6'0 172 - West Hills, Ca
Goudis was very steady in his first year handling Miami's place kicking duties.
Hit 13 of 17 FG attempts with a long of 49. Also nailed all 57 of his extra point attempts.
This season, with Pat O'Donnell now in the NFL, he will likely take over kick off responsibilities as well.
Goudis is also in competition with Ricky Carroll (and maybe walk on Justin Vogel) for the punting job.
Summary: A quick way to see your season disintegrate unexpectedly is having an unsteady place kicker. (Just ask Bobby Bowden) Fortunately for UM, Goudis is a very reliable kicker, and will likely get better with a year of experience. Though others (Matt Bosher) have successfully handled both the kicking and punting duties, the ideal situation is to have individual players handle each responsibility. Goudis may currently the frontrunner for the punting job, but I think Caroll and Vogel will be given every chance in the summer to overtake him. But there is no doubt who the 'Canes will count on for FG's (though there has been some buzz about walk on Jon Semerene, hard to see him overtaking the incumbent). Here's hoping Goudis has another big year filled with clutch kicks.
