He is also the son of former cane Anthony Lawrence, who played at UM from 1991-1993. Lawrence Jr. had initially committed to UCF, but changed his mind after an unofficial visit to Coral Gables.
From Lakewood High in the Tampa area, Lawrence Jr. averaged 21ppg and led his team to the 5A state championship game. In Lawrence Jr., Miami gets a talented wing with a lot of upside. Rated as a 3-star prospect by ESPN, Lawrence Jr. looks like a creative scorer with the ability to play above the rim.
Aside from watching the videos to follow, it is great to hear that Coach Larranaga has kept his eye on Lawrence Jr. since 9th grade. Recently, Coach L has had a pretty good track record of finding diamonds in the rough. Shane Larkin was definitely a 5-star prospect masquerading as a 3-star prospect in the eyes of scouts. The jury isn't out of Tonye Jekiri yet, who improved tremendously toward the end of the season, or on Deandre Burnett, who might be all-world when he laces them up next year.
I guess the bottom line is that in Coach L I trust - and so should you.
