Of all the weeks to have life cosh you over the head.
But we're late on ProDay. Pardon.
Here's who worked out: TE Jimmy Graham, OL Jason Fox, LB Darryl Sharpton, TE Dedrick Epps, DB Chavez Grant, RB Javarris James, TE Tervaris Johnson, DE Eric Moncur, DB Randy Phillips, OL Matt Pipho, DB Sam Shields and OL A.J. Trump.
It was hard not to gently weep typing that, for reasons I'd rather not spell out.
Here's who attended: Jimmy Johnson, Lamar Thomas, Ted Hendricks, Don Bosseler, George Mira Sr. and Cortez Kennedy.
It was hard not to gently weep typing that, for reasons we could all spell out.
Bad news first: Foxy pulled his hamstring running the 40. He spent more than 30 minutes with trainers and returned for individual drills, but couldn't function at capacity.
"You've seen him play injured," said Trump, who's worked out with the Lions, Titans, and Bucs. "It's been a difficult road for him. He gave his heart and soul for this team; now he's paying the price for it. He'll get his shot and be an established NFL player.
"I feel bad for Fox. But when they see him on film they'll know he's a great player."
[ponders] Okay.
Good news next: Graham did well. He didn't run the 40 again, because he ran well at the combine, but he did participate in drills and was "happy" with his performance.
With regard to Todd McShay's criticism that Graham is mentally weak and always has an excuse for everything (which Omar Kelly hopped right on, out of nowhere), Graham responded:
"That's just something you have to deal with. I think after camp, after a couple of games I'll be able to show people I'm a football player. I just want to show people what I can do."
[shrugs] Okay.
Sharpton said he ran a 4.6 in the 40, went from 24 (at the combine) to 26 reps in the bench press, and did a 4.2-second shuttle. He also broad jumped 10'1".
"I'm a confident guy," he said. "I think I'm one of the best linebackers in the nation and I expect to get drafted accordingly."
[blesses his heart] Okay.
Also: Sam Shields ran a 4.24 forty.
[faints] Holy Shit.
Players told media they thought Eric Moncur, Tervaris Johnson and Sam Shields helped their chances most today. Considering their chances are pretty low, we'll take it.
And Trump, well, he put a little que sera, sera on top:
"It's been a great experience and I'd never take anything back. What the senior class did that's on the way out is very special. I will be part of that group that sort of turned it around."
Aw!
