Miami Snags Preston Dewey

 (via mdewey1)

After days (days!) of speculation, 2012 QB Preston Dewey has officially given a verbal committment to the University of Miami. Dewey-- at 6' 3", 205--  is the type of Mitt Romney-esque prototypical pocket passer that you can expect to become a staple of the program under Al Golden's staff. Dewey, out of Austin, Tex., chose Miami over offers from Tennesse, UCLA and Utah as well as interest from schools like Alabama, LSU and Oklahoma. Needless to say, I'm VERY pleased by the potential of many "DEWEY DEFEATS [ACC SCHOOL]" headlines, though we're a few years off of that, and one day this program might cause me to jump off of a cliff. (Of which there are plenty in Miami, obviously.)

Dewey is roughly the 58th quarterback to pledge to Miami in 2011, and he'll join fellow recruit Gray Crow-- and possibly David Thompson-- in 2012 as the new wave of program saviors. He's an Under Armour All-American as well as an ESPN 150 Watch List member (very prestigious honor, of course), though he's yet to recieve a star rating from Rivals, which has me at the very edge of my seat. The Canes now have 12 commitments for 2012.
