The position of University of Miami Athletic Director has been one that includes an office with a revolving door as of late. With Kirby Hocutt at the helm, Miami got itself embroiled into the now infamous Shapiro Scandal. Hocutt bolted for Texas Tech shortly after the Yahoo! report was released. Shawn Eichorst stepped in, vowed to see the school through the NCAA issues, then shut his doors for months on end. He turned down interview request after interview request, citing the NCAA investigation. Now, he is gone to Nebraska.
Miami turned to Blake James in the interim, but the position is certainly open, and the school is looking. So far, nothing has been spoken about the search, what with the season still going on and all. Then, seemingly out of nowhere, this:
Strong rumors that Miami is targeting Arkansas AD Jeff Long as its new athletic director.
Long could be a great candidate for the job, even if his most recent coaching decision has turned out to be....interesting. This thing is obviously a rumor, and one that I have not seen substantiated anywhere else, so take it with a grain of salt.
