While not much has gone right for the Hurricanes that last fourteen days, one player has really elevated his play.
Allen Hurns has been on a whole other level of late.
Whether snagging passes with his soft hands, dragging his feet on the sidelines like an old pro, or exploding down field for deep bombs, Hurns has been fantastic this season for the 'Canes.
Miami Head Coach Al Golden has taken notice. And the reason for the success according to Golden, is simple.
"Allen is practicing an another level. He is showing everyone the value of hard work. He will communicate with us during the game and tell us what he sees. He is a guy that I trust. We need more guys to give us that kind of effort. Allen Hurns continues to do the little things right every day."
For the season Hurns has hauled in 37 passes for 732 yards and 5 scores.
In the last 2 weeks alone he has 9 for 226 and 3 big TD's.
Once seen as more of a reliable possession receiver and a technician as a route runner, Hurns has added an explosive element to his game this year as both a deep threat (evidenced in last night's 84 yard home run ball) and a dangerous run after catch threat (see his 69 yard gem against Georgia Tech).
In addition to his prolific on the field production, the 6'3 senior from Carol City H.S. promised to provide even more leadership to younger receivers like Stacy Coley and Herb Waters,
"I talk to them a lot. I am going to talk to them even more. I am going to watch film with them more. I am going to teach them the different coverages and what route to run according the coverage. I have to tell them to calm down even if they make a mistake."
Just minutes after a devastating loss, Hurns remained steadfast and optimistic,
"We know our goals aren't over with. We're going to come in and chase our dreams."
If the 'Canes are able to salvage the season and make it to Charlotte, you can bet Allen Hurns will be a huge part of it.
Additionally if he continues to play at such a high level, Hurns may continue another UM tradition and find himself making big plays on Sundays.
