FLA Power Ranks Week 11: The Hierarchy Starts to Take Shape

Each week the Sunshine Seven take the field and do battle. Some come out victorious, some come out defeated. The way they handle those said results tell who's on top in the state and who's down in the mud. Check out the ranks below to see where everyone ranks!

So close yet so far. UCF wins this one on a last second missed opportunity by Houston.

How the Teams are Rated

The rankings of each team are based on weekly performances as well as their overall results from the current season. A team may have more talent than another on the list but if they're not getting wins and putting up solid statistics, they won't be rated higher.

1 - FSU 9-0 (7-0), Last Weeks Rank - 1

Week 11 Opponent:  59 - 3 Win @ Wake

Week 12 Opponent: Syracuse, 3:30 p.m., ABC

Comments from Week 11:

Well, not much to say here. FSU is rolling. The game time didn't affect them and neither did the fact that they had a great rivalry win last week over the Canes. I could write about how great the defense was or how prolific the offense was but that's old hat. I will point out that the defense had 6 interceptions against a host of Wake Forest Quarterbacks that entered the contest. By the way, Wake had 7 completions the entire game. Think about that for a minute..

Their next opponent looks to be another future bludgeoning victim in the Syracuse Orangemen. It is basketball season but the Noles are playing them on the Grid Iron so the outcome should favor the Noles in this one, slightly :)

2 - University of Central Florida 7-1, (4-0), Last Weeks Rank - 2

Week 11: 19 - 17 Win Verse Houston

Week 12: @ Temple, 12 p.m., ESPN3

Comments from Week 11:

This game had a little of everything in it. Some long field goals, touchdown runs and throws, a few pics and about 800 yards offense between the two foes. For an AAC game, you can't do much better than this and UCF was able to come out on the winning end of this match. Houston could have won on a last second toss but on fourth down they didn't convert and lost the game.

Now UCF must turn their focus to a down and out Temple team. Expect the crowd to be sparse at "The Linc" and if UCF puts their foot down early in this game, they could cruise to an easy win. However, that's why they play the game so we'll have to see what happens come noon Saturday.

About 2 months ago our readers would have lashed out at me for putting the Knights 2 in our rankings. Now as the season has progressed it looks like there are only 2 really good teams in the Sunshine State and then a few middling teams and lastly the raging dumpster fires at the bottom of the heap.

3 - University of Miami 7-2, (3-2), Last Weeks Rank - 3

Week 11 Opponent: 42 - 24 Loss to Virginia Tech

Week 12 Opponent: @ Duke, 3:30 p.m., ESPNU

Comments from Week 11:

Yea.

The Canes now turn their attention to a well-coached and scalding hot Duke team. Will the Canes turn it around after the last two weeks or will we see another barn burner like last season's game in Durham?

4 - University of Florida 4-5, (3-4), Last Weeks Rank - 4

Week 11 Opponent: 34 - 17 Loss to Vanderbilt

Week 12 Opponent: @ South Caroline, 7 p.m., ESPN2

Comments from Week 11:

At this point it's coming down to a "will they or won't they" type of situation at Florida in regards to their Head Coach Will Muschamp. Here's the deal.. The Gators have lost 10 players since the start of the season from their two deep and heap on a few more that could have been contributors during their spring conditioning period. Now, should guys that fill in be all conference type players right away? No, we should see SOME improvement on the field and it's just not happening. Last week the Gators played an uninspired, hard to watch game against Vandy and came out the losers. They lost their starting middle linebacker for the rest of the season and now it looks like their second string QB may be out against a top 10 opponent.

Good luck guys.

5 - Florida Atlantic 3-6, (2-4), Last Weeks Rank - 5

Week 11: Bye Week:

Week 12 Opponent: @ Southern Mississippi, 12:30 p.m.

Comments from Week 11:

I don't know if you all have noticed over the last two or so weeks but really, my writing style changes throughout this piece. At first it's a awe-inspired, professional review of the top two spots. Then due to the mediocrity of the next two teams (especially the last month or so) it's kind of a "meh, guess I have to talk about this" type of tone and then the last three programs it has to be satirical due to their ineptness.

Let's start with team number 1 of 3, FAU. They had an off week but that didn't stop them from making the tabloids for the second straight week. Just to get you all caught up if you haven't been watching TMZ lately.. Head Coach Carl Pelini resigned last week because it was alleged he smoked weed and used cocaine at a party. FAU also released their Defensive Coordinator as well because it was alleged he also was partaking in the drug use at the same time as Pelini (FAU goes hard). Now Pelini is demanding his reinstatement and is saying he was forced to resign by the Athletic Diretor. At this point I could go into reasons why Pelini is looking to get his job back but it's mute. It's a very long story of "he said, she said."

Anyways, back to football! FAU takes on the downtrodden Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles this weekend. Let's see if they can stay focused against a team EVERYONE has beaten (they're 0-9).

6 - South Florida 2-6 (2-2), Last Weeks Rank - 6

Week 11: Bye Week

Week 12 Opponent: Memphis, 7 p.m., ESPN3

Comments from Week 11:

Not much to say here, just hope USF got some offensive sets straightened out during the bye week so they don't have 10+ penalties against Memphis. I'll be honest with you, I don't understand why this game is even on ESPN3. Both teams are awful and the ratings needle may not move off "0" for this game.

7 - Florida International 1-6 (1-2), Last Weeks Rank - 7

Week 11: 48 - 0 Loss @ Middle Tennessee

Week 12 Opponent: @ UTEP, 8 p.m., ABC- HAHAHAHHA just kidding, it's not on TV

Week 11 Comments:

I know I promised I would not comment on FIU anymore but I didn't watch the game and had no idea of the outcome. When I flipped to their homepage on ESPN to see the score I literally gasped and said "dear lord they're bad.. I mean really, REALLY bad."
