Watching Duke take on FSU this weekend in Charlotte is probably not the most palpable thing for most 'Canes fans.
Clearly we would all have rather seen UM get another crack at Jameis Winston and Co. But this weekend's ACCCG does have implications for the Hurricanes.
Miami's eventual bowl destination could be directly impacted by not only the outcome of this game, but how it plays out.
The popular thinking (unconfirmed) among prognosticators is that the fine folks at Chick-fil-A Bowl will pick Duke, if they can keep it close.
However in the likely outcome FSU wins as big as they have all season, and you got Miami fans, pack your bags for a New Year's Eve date in Atlanta.
UM would likely face Georgia should this scenario play out.
Chick-fil-A Bowl Pros/Cons: Another crack at an elite SEC squad could prove invaluable for the young 'Canes, and a win would earmark them for a high preseason ranking next year. However given the struggles of the defense, facing that high powered offense might not turn out too well. Atlanta is a really fun city, but will Miami fans travel to ATL on NYE??
If the Devils play well enough to earn that date, word is Miami ends up in Orlando December 28 Vs one time Miami commit Teddy Bridgewater and Louisville in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Russell Athletic Bowl Pros/Cons: What Cane fan wouldn't like to get a shot to show Bridgewater and Eli Rogers what they passed up? Orlando is not too bad of a road trip for fans from the 305. On the other hand this bowl has less prestige and notoriety and losing to Teddy B would be a bitter pill to swallow.
If the Blue Devils somehow win, "fu get bout it." Your guess is as good as mine.
Word is that Miami has no shot at the Orange Bowl and Clemson is virtually a lock to earn an invite to Sun Life.
Stay tuned for more updates as they become available. The final word on where UM will play come bowl season should be available next week.
