David Thompson returned to the Canes lineup on Wednesday night but struggled going 0-4. The offense was hitting the ball hard which they have not as of late. However, 3 errors from the defense made it difficult for starting pitcher Javi Salas and the Canes. The Wildcats scored the first 2 runs of the game in the 4th inning after Dale Carey mishandled a ball hit to centerfield. The hit had brought one run in but after the botched play by Carey the Canes went down 2-0. The defensive woes have begun to be a trend, as Miami has had at least one error in the last six games. Including 3 today and 5 on March 24th vs. Virginia Tech. Javi Salas continued to struggle as the mid week starter lowering his record to 2-4 and dropping his last 4 decisions. Salas said after the game "I just have to pitch better". Eric Whaley came in for relief after Salas' 7 innings, he threw 2 scoreless innings allowing only one hit.

Canes are dealing with their share of injuries at this point in the season. Thompson returned today but Alex San Juan had his knee drained yesterday and was told by doctors he could only DH and not catch. Shortstop Brandon Lopez was also out today after getting hurting his back Friday in the series vs. Virginia. Coach Morris mentioned that he is unsure if Brandon will be able to play this weekend. Christopher Barr did not play today either which opened the door for Thompson to play. Barr injured his shoulder this weekend and his status for the FSU series in unknown.

After Senior Michael Broad hit a two run home run in the bottom of the 6th to make it 5-3 he said he felt it would "up-lift" the team and get the comeback going. It was the 15th home run of his career which also ranks first amongst active Canes. The rotation for Miami figures to stay the same this weekend with Diaz, Radziewski, & Suarez starting respectively.
