Former Canes Hoops Big Man Says Bonjour to France

After taking advantage of a rare sixth year of eligibility by becoming a critical part of the Miami Hurricanes Sweet 16 run, Julian Gamble is taking his game overseas. Read on to find out more.

A short time ago former Miami Hurricanes basketball player Julian Gamble announced on Instagram he was heading overseas to play professionally in France.

"Blessed beyond belief to have an opportunity to continue to play the game I love professionally! This is only the beginning of a great future ahead! St. Vallier, France here I come! #TGBTG #Blessed #Hungry"

Julian took advantage of his 6th year with the Canes after receiving a rare 2nd medical red-shirt. He initially played a reserve role last year but when Reggie Johnson went out with a broken thumb Julian stepped up big! His strong play was a key part of the Canes winning the ACC Championship and Sweet 16 run and many in the media said he was the unsung hero of the team. One thing his team and Canes fans know is he had the biggest heart and showed that emotion on and off the court where he almost became famous for his photobombing his coaches and teammates as he was for his thunderous dunks (see below)!

UPDATE: We asked Julian for some info on when he is heading over and he said:

I'm headed over there Mid August, no exact date yet but it will be sometime between the 10th and 20th

As for what he knows about St. Vallier and when their season starts?

The team last year finished near the bottom of the league (15 out of 18) so I'm definitely excited for the challenge and being a huge part of turning this around. I believe from looking at the previous schedule that games start in September and we would play once a week on the weekend

On what he is looking forward to with this new challenge?

I'm most excited about learning a new culture and lifestyle, obviously playing, and just going over there to have a positive impact on and off the court which is what i take pride in.

I am working out here (in the U.S.), traveling between North Carolina and Miami, working camp down in Miami with the team and just enjoying being around everyone!

Julian had one more tidbit for Canes fans as they look to next season:

P.S.- This team is going to surprise a lot of people! They are more athletic as a team now than we were last year!

Thanks or should we say MERCI as we wish Julian BON VOYAGE and BONNE CHANCE #CanesFam!
