For Tory Miller, an offer from Miami has been a long time coming.
“They started recruiting me about a year ago, last fall or last winter, and they finally offered me last week. I don’t even know how to describe it, it’s been one I’ve been waiting on for a while, it felt good to finally get it”, Miller told State of the U.
The 6’8” Power Forward from New Hampshire has offers from several other high major programs, including Marquette, Cal, VCU and Kansas State.
In terms of his playing style, Miller is a bit of a throwback. While most big men nowadays tend to float out around the three-point line, Miller still likes to bang down low on offense. “I’ve been playing since I was two, and I’ve probably been playing down low since I was six. I’ve always been one of the bigger kids, so I’ve always been playing down low”.
While Miller prefers to play inside, he recognizes that the game is changing, and with that, he will need to change, too. “I’m mainly working on stepping out right now. I’m working on getting to the rim from the outside, putting the ball on the floor. “Crafty” is probably the right word for it. I’m working on creating my own shots”.
In terms of recruiting, Miller knows exactly what he’s looking for – “Early playing opportunities. I’m not asking to be guaranteed minutes, but I want the opportunity to compete. That’s the main thing. I also want to know the staff well, and I’d like a school with my major, sports medicine and exercise science. The last thing is that I want a coach that will be there for the next four years”.
When I asked him about Miami, Miller was quick to reply “I like their style of play. I like Coach L, and I know he won’t be leaving any time soon. I’m really comfortable with their staff. They play in the ACC, which is a great conference to be in, especially with all the new additions”.
Miller is working on his visits at the moment – he’s trying to confirm all five before he releases the list of schools.
Miller plays to sign during the early signing period, from November 13th to November 20th.
Tory Miller is rated a 3* recruit by Rivals, ESPN and 247sports. He is #219 in the 247sports composite rankings.
