Back in June, 3* ATH Brandon Powell from Deerfield Beach committed to play for Butch Jones and the Tennessee Volunteers. While he primarily plays RB for his High School team, the multi-talented 5'9" Powell is a versatile player who could see time at RB, WR, or even in the defensive secondary.
Over the past 6 weeks since his commitment, the Canes coaching staff has stayed connected to Powell's recruitment, and there has been growing chatter that Powell was reconsidering his choice. That chatter was confirmed on August 3rd. First came this:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>BREAKING: Deerfield Beach (Fla.) ATH Brandon Powell has de-committed from Tennessee he tells me. Then came this:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p>Let it all begin....</p>— Brandon Powell (@_Powellbp4) <a href="https://twitter.com/_Powellbp4/statuses/363806289639374848">August 3, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Obviously, Powell was having such reservations about going to Tennessee that he de-committed.
Later that evening, Powell made a decision that Canes fans hope will be his last:
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-partner="tweetdeck"><p>Breaking - Deerfield Bch RB Brandon Powell <a href="https://twitter.com/_Powellbp4">@_Powellbp4</a> commits to the University of Miami!!! Talking to Powell now. Have quotes shortly..</p>— SFHS Sports (@SFHSSports) <a href="https://twitter.com/SFHSSports/statuses/363848696506494976">August 4, 2013</a></blockquote>
<script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
With that, Al Golden and Co. have drawn their 26th commit for the class of 2014, and added a valuable skill position player who can help in a variety of areas. In short, this is another good get on the recruiting trail, and shows that June and July's momentum is still building for the Hurricanes.
WELCOME TO THE U, BRANDON!!!!
