Below is a statement from Miami Hurricanes redshirt QB Preston Dewey. The University of Miami Athletics Department and head coach Al Golden will have no further comment at this time.

"Following consultations with doctors in Miami and in Texas, it was determined that I am no longer able to play football because of my back injury. We have scheduled surgery for December and I am looking forward to getting better. I have decided to remain at the University of Miami to complete my education. I would like to thank Coach Golden for the opportunity to be a part of the Hurricanes football program, the future is bright for this team. Obviously this is a very sad time for me, but I will continue to be a supporter of this team and these coaches; and I will be a Hurricane for life."

Our Take: This is a sad end to what once looked like a promising career.  UM has recruited heavily at the QB position, and still has a veteran in Ryan Williams, freshman Kevin Olsen, and 2 promising 2014 recruits in Bray Kaaya and Malik Rosier verbally committed.  Not to mention fellow classmate Gray Crow, who was ahead of him on the depth chart. So from a football standpoint, this is not a huge loss.  Nonetheless this is a sad way to see a kid hang them up and we wish Preston the best of luck.  His statement this morning shows the young man is a class act.
