Perryman, Chickillo Earn ACC Player of the Week Honor

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Miami’s Denzel Perryman and Anthony Chickillo, who led the defensive effort in the Hurricanes’ 21-16 win over Florida, have been named the ACC Linebacker and Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week, respectively.

Perryman tallied a team- and season-high 13 tackles, including a game-high nine solo stops against the Gators.

He led a Hurricanes defense that forced five Florida Gators turnovers, including a fumble he forced on Florida’s opening possession. Perryman leads the Canes with 19 tackles, including a team-high 14 solo stops, through two games.

Chickillo was tabbed Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week after adding five tackles, 1.0 sack and 1.0 tackle for loss the Canes victory. He has made 23 consecutive starts along the defensive line, dating back to the final nine games of the 2011 season. He has 10 tackles, 2.0 sacks and 2.0 tackles for loss the through the season’s first two games.

The Hurricanes (2-0) entered the AP Top 25 Poll this week at No. 15 and are also ranked No. 18 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. After this week’s open date, Miami will return to Sun Life Stadium when it hosts Savannah State on Sept. 21 at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN3.
