The Coastal Division lost all self-control this past week, but fortunately for Miami the division's dubious ways played into The U's favor. Georgia Tech lost its second-straight conference game. Duke defeated Virginia to hand the Cavaliers their first conference loss of the season. Those were the key matchups Canes fans had tuned into as the team itself leisured through its bye week. Now the Hurricanes must take advantage of the generosity the Coastal Division lends its faltering members.

Atlantic Division

1st - Florida State Seminoles 7-0 ACC: 4-0

AP/Coaches ranking: 2nd/2nd

Previous week: vs. #7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-1); Result: WIN 31-27

Next opponent: BYE

In any sport, when an official's call affects the game result fans typically feel as if things are left unresolved. Asking questions, critiquing officials. The outcome of this game was unfortunate, but Ryan Nanni of Every Day Should Be Saturday offers some clarity:

J U S T  F O L L O W  T H E  B L I M P I E.

2nd - Clemson Tigers 5-2 ACC: 4-1

AP/Coaches ranking: 21st/20th

Previous week: @ Boston College Eagles (4-3); Result: WIN 17-13

Next opponent: 10/25 7:00PM vs. Syracuse Orange (3-4)

Clemson narrowly survived its first outing without quarterback Deshaun Watson. Shakin the Southland takes a look at Clemson's advanced stats and the ugly truth they hold: LINK.

3rd - Louisville Cardinals 6-2 ACC: 4-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. N.C. State Wolfpack (4-4); Result: WIN 30-18

Next opponent: BYE

Cardinals' defensive standout Lorenzo Mauldin left Saturday's game against the Wolfpack with a possible hamstring injury. According to Mauldin he's preparing for Louisville's matchup with Florida State on October 30th all the same.

4th - Boston College Eagles 4-3 ACC: 1-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. #20 Clemson Tigers (5-2); Result: LOSS 17-13

Next opponent: 10/25 3:30PM @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-5)

The Football Gods did not want Steve Addazio to win against Clemson. A missed PAT left Boston College without the luxury of a game-tying field goal. Inside the red zone with 1:10 remaining in the 4th, Tyler Rouse dropped a pass for what would have been the go-ahead score. Every opportunity was there, but the O'Rourke-McFadden Trophy was not meant to be Boston College's.

5th - N.C. State Wolfpack 4-4 ACC: 0-4

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: @ Louisville Cardinals (6-2); Result: LOSS 30-18

Next opponent: BYE

N.C. State-Louisville was a closer contest than the final score indicates. With a little over two minutes remaining, the Wolfpack brought the score to 23-18 and attempted an onside kick. Louisville recovered the kick and put the game out of reach on the ensuing drive. Having several starters suspended in last week's BB gun incident, a short-handed N.C. State just didn't have the manpower to top the Cardinals.

6th - Syracuse Orange 3-4 ACC: 1-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons (2-5); Result: WIN 30-7

Next opponent: 10/25 7:00PM @ #20 Clemson Tigers (5-2)

Syracuse had a strong showing against the Demon Deacons. The 30-7 effort can be attributed in most part to the Orange defense. Syracuse forced two turnovers, an interception and a fumble, that each resulted in scores. Altogether Syracuse held the Wake Forest offense to just 170 yards and 3 for 15 on third down.

7th - Wake Forest Demon Deacons 2-5 ACC: 0-3

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. Syracuse Orange (3-4); Result: LOSS 30-7

Next opponent: 10/25 3:30PM vs. Boston College Eagles (4-3)

Wake Forest has struggled to put up points against its conference opponents. The possibility of the Demon Deacons going winless in the conference is only strengthening as weeks go bye.

Coastal Division

1st - Duke Blue Devils 6-1 ACC: 2-1

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. Virginia Cavaliers (4-3); Result: WIN 20-13

Next opponent: BYE

Similar to a trend we saw from Duke a year ago, the Blue Devils again knocked off the previous week's Coastal leader (Georgia Tech & Virginia). Duke's victory over Virginia has given David Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils bowl eligibility.

2nd - Virginia Cavaliers 4-3 ACC: 2-1

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: @ Duke Blue Devils (6-1); Result: LOSS 20-13

Next opponent: 10/25 12:00PM vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (3-4)

Virginia remains unbeaten within the conference no more. Dethroned by the Blue Devils, the Cavaliers must now face a Tar Heel squad coming off a victory over Georgia Tech that saw a plethora of points.

3rd - Pittsburgh Panthers 4-3 ACC: 2-1

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (4-3); Result: WIN 21-16

Next opponent: 10/25 3:30PM vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-2)

Pittsburgh's matchup with Virginia Tech on Thursday night carried a great deal of importance for the Panthers' outlook on the division. The Hokies done away with, Pittsburgh now looks to its next opponent as an opportunity to thrust itself into the leaders circle.

4th - Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5-2 ACC: 2-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: @ North Carolina Tar Heels (3-4); Result: LOSS 48-43

Next opponent: 10/25 3:30PM @ Pittsburgh Panthers (4-3)

Georgia Tech suffered its second conference loss of the season. Now the Yellow Jackets find themselves trapped in the middle of the convoluted division.

5th - Miami Hurricanes 4-3 ACC: 1-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: BYE; Result: N/A

Next opponent: Thursday 10/23 8:00PM @ Virginia Tech Hokies (4-3)

Miami benefited from having a bye week with two of the top Coastal members losing, but lose a spot in the polls with Pittsburgh's win over Virginia Tech. There's still climbing to do.

6th - Virginia Tech Hokies 4-3 ACC: 1-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: @ Pittsburgh Panthers (4-3); Result: LOSS 21-16

Next opponent: Thursday 10/23 8:00PM vs. Miami Hurricanes (4-3)

Gobbler Country prepares for Thursday night's matchup with the Miami Hurricanes:

7th - North Carolina Tar Heels 3-4 ACC: 1-2

AP/Coaches ranking: NR/NR

Previous week: vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (5-2); Result: WIN 48-43

Next Opponent: 10/25 12:00PM @ Virginia Cavaliers (4-3)

North Carolina's win over Georgia Tech was the Tar Heels' biggest victory of the season yet. The North Carolina offense amassed 579 total yards and Marquise Williams led the way with 390 yards and four touchdowns. There's still trouble on the defensive side, but with an offense clicking as they have in their past two games there's no ruling out UNC in its conference matchups.

ACC vs. Big Ten (1-3)

ACC vs. Big 12 (2-0)

ACC vs. PAC-12 (1-1)
