Miami built a staggering 3-0 lead through the first 6 minutes of the game. The 'Canes didn't look efficient on offense. Angel Rodriguez hit an early runner and converted 1 of 2 free-throws and Manu Lecomte continued to struggle from the field. But both guards were cold from the floor.
Tonye Jekiri was a monster on the boards early and had a nice move inside, but the aesthetics of play were fairly abysmal. Still, a 5-0 lead over the first 8 minutes+ was better than being down.
After a Charleston bucket Lecomte converted on a layup and on the next Miami possession, Deandre Burnett found James Palmer for an easy 2-handed dunk. With a 9-2 lead, the 'Canes looked to be in control early. Davon Reed hit a nice put-back to force the lead to 12-4 Miami. Omar Sherman received a pass from Reed which led to an easy dunk for the freshman.
The 'Canes bench seemed to find an offensive rhythm and extended the lead to 17-4. Miami's defense was solid but Charleston's offense resembled the 'Canes output over the past few games. Miami picked up the offense and took a 32-12 lead into the locker room with a balanced attack that has been missing over the past few weeks.
The destruction continued into the second half and Miami seemed to shake off the malaise of the past few weeks. Rodriguez seemed to snap out of his funk and the 'Canes coasted to an easy victory.
With Virginia coming to town on Saturday, Miami must keep the same focus and intensity on both sides of the ball if they hope to come away with a W.
