Opening Thoughts:
Well ladies and gentlemen, it's good to be back! After a little hiatus I'm happy to be working with RCP_SOTU and Jerry Steinberg to bring you all the Canes, ACC and sports news you can handle. Lets get to the news:
Friday brought us a new birth of a season as the Diamond Canes took to the field. It started out well on Friday with timely walks to start the game and an overall solid performance from both the starting pitcher and the relievers as UM was able to pull out the victory.

However, the game on Saturday turned out to be a flubber as our boys just couldn't muster enough offense and lost..

Moving on to Sunday, where the young men decided to hopefully make what happened on Saturday an aberration. UM crushed Maine 11-2 in front of a packed crowd at Mark Light Field. Nine Canes were able to register a hit in the game and a few actually had a multi-hit day.

This weekend we also saw the basketball team struggle on offense too as they lost to VT Saturday in an ugly showing in which niether team performed well on the offensive end. Sometimes good defense is great to watch in basketball but when both teams can't score, it just becomes a bore..

Imagine making gobs of money, under performing your last 2-3 years on the job, getting fired and yet still getting paid gobs of money for the next 8 years. Sounds pretty sweet aye? Well that's almost exactly what could happen to Frank Beamer at Virginia Tech if next season is a forgettable year. Beamer built VT into a solid, if not at times a power house program for football. But for whatever reason, whether it be coaching turnover or just the lack of bringing in top echelon recruiting talent, the Hokies haven't played up to their standards the last few seasons. However, whats interesting about Beamer's contract is that if he "decides to step down" from his current position he then becomes a "special assistant" and is paid a cool $250k a year for the next 8 years. Baller status.
