Ok sports fans. The day you've been waiting for is almost here. National Signing Day 2014 is just around the corner. This is a day when we wait out the decisions of 17 and 18 year old kids, and we see who can come up with the most creative announcement theme. I'm sure there will be a great one. There always is.
For the Miami Hurricanes, the past couple of years has left fans waiting until the very end to hear the decisions of top recruits. Tracy Howard committed on NSD in 2012, and Stacy Coley and Jermaine Grace did the same in 2013.
There isn't really much suspense this year. Most of this class is set, and has been for a while. Add in the fact that we already have 9 (9!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) early enrollees on campus, and there is little in the way of waiting and hand wringing this year. The early enrollees, for those wondering, are: RB Joseph Yearby, OL Kc McDermott, OL Trevor Darling, DE Trent Harris, OLB Juwon Young, OLB Darrion Owens, DT Calvin Heurtelou, WR Braxton Berrios, and CB Ryan Mayes.
Want to see the whole list of Cane commits? It's right here
In case you missed it, we've been running a bunch of Pre-NSD articles to get you up to speed and ready. Here they are, in link form:
For those who are interested in such things (which, should be all of you) we'll have a live thread that will be updated as the announcements are made and Letters of Intent are faxed in to the offices at the Hecht Athletic Center.
ALSO, since there were rave reviews for this last year, we'll be having text updates available to you. All you have to do to sign up is CLICK THIS LINK and fill out the registration. Normal data and text message rates apply.
While the majority of the work in this class has already been done, there are a couple of guys who are said to be considering Miami for their final collegiate destination. They are:
5-star DE Chad Thomas (Booker T. Washington HS, Miami, FL) -
Reports are that Thomas really enjoyed his visit to Alabama and is strongly considering the Tide. Thomas himself, however, has repeatedly maintained that he is committed 100% to Miami and will be signing with the Hurricanes. I, for one, take Thomas at his oft repeated word.
4-star ATH/QB Treon Harris (Booker T. Washington HS, Miami, FL) - Harris is an interesting prospect. He has multiple family members who have attended Miami, and his father, legendary BTW coach Tim "Ice" Harris, was an assistant at Miami. The younger Harris, who is considering Miami, Florida, Florida State, and Auburn, may choose to blaze his own path.
4-star DB J.C. Jackson (Immokalee HS, Immokalee, FL) - Jackson has long been a commit to the University of Florida. It's known that his father would like him to pick Miami. The younger Jackson's desires, however, are not clear. All will be known at his NSD signing ceremony.
4-star DT Travonte Valentine (Champagnat Catholic, Hialeah, FL) - Once a Miami commit, this U.S. Army All-American is arguably the player whose decision will garner the most attention. Many people feel as though he's a heavy LSU lean, but Miami fans hope for a last minute change of heart.
3-star DT Lamont Gaillard (Pine Forest HS, Fayetteville, NC) - Gaillard saw late interest from Miami. He took an official visit last weekend, but doesn't figure to choose Miami. Most think he'll stick with his long-standing commitment to the University of Georgia.
4-star DE/OLB Lorenzo Featherston (Page HS, Greensboro, NC) - Another player with late interest from Miami. Some have said that Featherston was the one who initiated the original contact. He came for a visit last weekend with Gaillard, and was impressed, but not enough to commit to Miami. Will likely stick with his commitment to Florida State.
I'll leave you with a couple good pre-NSD articles to read. See you guys bright and early tomorrow.
