Miami manages just four hits in the blowout loss

USA TODAY Sports

The Miami Hurricanes (11-10, 4-2 ACC) dropped a lopsided affair with their in-state rival UCF Golden Knights (10-12, 0-0) 9-2 on Tuesday night at Mark Light Field. The loss was the third in a row and fifth out of six for the Hurricanes.

The star of the game was Knight starter Tanner Olson, who was superb over eight innings for UCF. Olson (2-1) gave up only two runs on four base hits, struck out four, and didn't walk a single UM batter in a seemingly effortless performance.

Danny Garcia (0-1) started for the Canes and took the loss getting knocked around hard over four innings. Garcia allowed three earned runs on a whopping nine hits. Miami used six pitchers on an evening Hurricane fans would like to forget.

The Knights plated two runs in the top of the first and Miami could never catch them. Dylan Moore starred offensively for UCF going 4-6 with two runs scored and two RBI's. UCF right fielder Erik Barber also added two RBI's and scoring one run. Golden Knight center fielder Derrick Salberg extended his hitting streak to ten games going 3-5 with a run scored and one knocked in. Designated Hitter Sam Tolleson also had a three hit night, scored two runs and knocking another in. All in all UCF batters tallied 15 hits off Miami pitching on Tuesday night. The Canes also committed three errors on the night pushing their season total to an astounding 36.

Two bright spots for Miami was Dale Carey extending his personal hitting streak to ten games with an infield single in the third inning. Carey would ultimately be stranded at third base to end the inning. Also, in the bottom of the seventh Zack Collins launched his third home run of the season over the left-center field fence to cut the Knight lead to 7-2 at that point.

Miami will look to rebound Wednesday night against Florida Gulf Coast in Fort Myers. Javi Salas is the scheduled starter and first pitch is set for 6:30pm.

Wednesday night's ballgame will be broadcasted on 90.5 WVUM.
