Robert Mayer-US PRESSWIRE

The Miami Hurricanes (16-12, 7-4 ACC) defeated the North Carolina State Wolfpack (15-10, 3-8 ACC) twice on Saturday afternoon in Raleigh, NC,  both games by a  final  score of 2-1.  The two wins push Miami into sole possession of second place in the Coastal Division, trailing only the Virginia Cavaliers.

Andrew Suarez started things off for the Canes in game two, and was sensational. Suarez (3-1) lasted eight innings and struck out three Wolfpack batters while giving up five hits. Suarez's only mistake was in the top of the 8th inning when NC State catcher Brett Austin connected for a long home run to cut a 2-0 Miami lead in half.

Dale Carey put Miami ahead in the third when he blasted a solo home run off Wolfpack starter Andrew Woeck (3-1). The Hurricanes struck again in the sixth after Carey led off with a double. After a Tyler Palmer strikeout, Willie Abreu singled to center to score Carey for his 14th rbi of the year and gave Miami a 2-0 lead.

Bryan Garcia came on to pitch the 9th inning for the Canes and pick up his 7th save of the season.

The Hurricanes and Wolfpack then resumed game one of the series at 5:45pm. When the game resumed it was tied at one in the bottom of the sixth. Things remained quiet until the top of the eighth inning. With one out, the Canes got back to back singles by Willie Abreu and Brad Fieger. With runners on the corners, Zack Collins lifted a long fly ball to center. Abreu scampered home to give Collins his 13th rbi of the season and Miami a 2-1 lead. Thomas Woodrey (1-0) got the win with Cooper Hammond coming on to pitch the ninth to earn his first save of the year.

The Hurricanes will go for the sweep of NC State on Sunday afternoon. Bryan Radziewski will take the hill for Miami. First pitch is set for 1pm. The game can be seen on ESPN3.
