GREENSBORO, N.C. -- After a standout performance in a sweep of the Duke Blue Devils this past weekend, senior outfielder Dale Carey was selected as an ACC Player of the Week Monday.
The honor was the career-first for Carey, who joined North Carolina’s Parks Jordan and Clemson’s Daniel Gossett as the conference’s weekly honorees.
Carey, a senior outfielder from Marietta, Ga., powered the Hurricanes (38-14) to their fourth consecutive ACC road sweep, leading the team with a .429 batting average in three games against the Blue Devils (6-for-14).
Carey hit his career-first grand slam in Saturday’s 9-1 victory and led the team in RBIs on the weekend (six). He also finished a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts.
In Miami’s come-from-behind series finale victory, Carey delivered an early game-tying RBI single and jumpstarted a key game-tying rally later in the game with a double off Duke righthander Mike Matuella.
The senior, who is the only Hurricane to have started all 52 games this season, went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI single in a 7-3 win over FGCU on May 7.
Carey is the third Hurricane to be recognized with weekly honors from the conference this spring, joining senior righthander Javi Salas (March 10) and freshman catcher Zack Collins (April 28).
