The future is now: 2014 recruits arrive on campus

The 2014 class was, unquestionably, Al Golden's best haul of talent since taking over at Miami. Today, the majority of those players arrive on campus.

The 2014 recruiting class has been hailed as the best collection of talent that Al Golden has signed since becoming Head Coach. Of the 27 players who signed in February, 9 of them came to campus in January and participated in Spring practice. Here's the list for those who may have forgotten:

  • RB Joseph Yearby (limited participation, limited live reps; recovering from ankle surgery)
  • WR Braxton Berrios (limited participation, non-contact only; recovering from ACL surgery)
  • OL Kc McDermott
  • OL Trevor Darling
  • DT Calvin Heurtelou
  • DE/OLB Trent Harris
  • LB Darrion Owens
  • LB JuWon Young
  • DB Ryan Mayes
Now, with the start of the first summer session coming on Monday, the vast majority of the class will be arriving in South Florida today to begin their career as Hurricanes. Here's a visual of who will be arriving today. And here's the list. Yeah, it's okay to be excited about this, guys.

  • DE Chad Thomas (5-star, best player in this class)
  • QB Brad Kaaya (The future at QB?)
  • DT Anthony Moten
  • S Kiy Hester
  • DT Michael Wyche (could be an immediate starter)
  • DE/OLB Mike Smith

  • DE/OLB Demetrius Jackson (player with MAYBE the most potential in this entire class)
  • WR Tyre Brady
  • S Marques Gayot
  • QB Malik Rosier (super athletic with a big arm; just needs refinement to his skills)
  • DT Courtel Jenkins (Could he be the NT we've been looking for in 2 years time?)
  • OG Nick Linder
  • DL/OL Joe Brown
Those not listed, WR/TE David Njoku, LB Terry McCray, TE Chris Herndon and WR Darrell Langham are scheduled to enroll for the 2nd summer session on June 30th.

The one name not listed for either summer session is ATH Trayone Gray. He has long been known to have academic issues, and is fighting to qualify. There continue to be reports from both sides saying he has his score and he doesn't have his score, but neither really seems to be certain at this point. Gray's talent as a multi-positional offensive weapon is well known, but we'll have to wait, presumably until after summer session B to know whether or not he'll be a Hurricane this year.

Today, like every day, is a GREAT DAY to be a Miami Hurricane. And, for 13 of our recruits, it's their first day as 'Canes. And, for those enrolling today, I say officially.....
