Well it was a game that spanned two days and had a little bit of everything.
But the Miami Hurricanes kept their baseball season alive, and set up a winner take all regional championship game tonight Vs Texas Tech, with a 2-1 come from behind win this afternoon over the Red Raiders.
Yesterday things got testy. In the words of our own Scott Salomon,
With the bases loaded in the top of the third inning between the University of Miami and Texas Tech, with Tech leading Miami 1-0, there was a bench clearing brawl as UM first baseman David Thompson tried to reach first base by beating out an infield hit. Two coaches and Tech's starting first baseman were ejected.
Tech first baseman Eric Gutierrez tagged out Thompson and then showed him the ball and then dropped it right next to him. Miami first base coach GIno DiMare had words with Gutierrez which caused Tech first's base coach Jay-Bob Thomas to come out of the dugout and get into a yelling match with DiMare. Gutierrez got into the fracas and both benches emptied. No punches were thrown, but the game was delayed 15 minutes.
And that was just the first of many delays. Following the melee there were three rain delays, perhaps leading to both teams struggling to put runs on the board, before the powers that be suspended the contest just before Midnight EST.
The game resumed at 2:02 PM EST with Miami trailing 1-0 in the top half of the eighth inning.
UM wasted no time getting the equalizer as Tyler Palmer scored on a ground out by David Thompson.
And in the top of the 10th they carried the momentum to a 2-1 lead on an RBI double by Thompson.
Miami closer Bryan Garcia finished off TT in the bottom half of the inning to get the win.
Game 7 of the regional between Miami and Texas Tech will begin at 4:10 p.m. Stay tuned folks.
