Path of the Storm Returns: The ACC Links

The 'Canes had a day of from fall camp yesterday, but there was still a lot going on.

Danny Wild-USA TODAY Sports

We know you all missed the daily updates with Miami taking the day off yesterday.

And today the Hurricanes are holding their first scrimmage (closed to the media and public).

So what better opportunity to take a look around some of the other newsworthy goings on in the ACC?

Huge Loss for Duke's D

Defending ACC Coastal Division Champion Duke suffered a HUGE loss as ALL ACC LB Kelby Brown was lost for the season with a torn ACL.

"Here is a young man who is an All-ACC and All-America-type player on the field, and even a better person off the field," shared Duke coach David Cutcliffe.

This will certainly hurt the Blue Devils chances of repeating as Coastal winners.  Imagine Miami losing Denzel Perryman.  Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.   Brown does have the option to apply for a medical redshirt and return for a 6th season next year.

Wake to start a freshman QB

Should Brad Kaaya win the 'Canes starting QB spot, he will not be the only freshman starter in the ACC. Wake Forest has already announced that 6'1 205 pound John Wolford is going to be their starter.

"John Wolford is going to be our starting quarterback," Wake Head Coach Dave Clawson said after Monday’s practice. "We made that decision (Monday) after watching the tape of (Sunday’s) scrimmage."

Could today's Miami scrimmage yield a similar result?  Stay tuned.

UNC searching for defensive depth

One of Miami's perceived biggest challengers in the Coastal is undoubtedly UNC.  But I can't help but think they are a top heavy roster (this does not mean they can not contend).  Norkeithus Otis played big for their defense last season with 8.5 sacks.  But do they have enough playmakers around him?

UNC Coach Larry Fedora was stumped when asked recently who would compliment Otis as a pass rusher,

"That’s a good question, We’ll see. I mean, somebody’s going to emerge. Because Norkeithus is going to command some attention."

If UNC has one glaring weakness thus far,  this appears to be it.

Syracuse Football Player Suspended for What Now???

We're not sure if freshman CB Naesean Howard is the next Tracy Howard as a football player or not,  but suspended for eating at Ruby Tuesday?

FSU Camp heating up

The defending National Champs held their first scrimmage yesterday,  and it looks like building defensive depth is the biggest concern for the Noles.   Sound familiar Miami fans?

In other news, it looks like Jalen Ramsey and Jimbo Fisher have worked out their differences.

Louisville has plenty of Thoroughbreds

The Cardinals will be starting a new QB this season. Whomever starts will have ridiculously talented WR Devante Parker to throw to.

But the thing that worries me most on Labor Day is their rushing attack.  They go 5 deep at the tailback position, with Dominique Brown, Michael Dyer, and LJ Scott looking particularly dangerous.

UM's defense better be ready to tackle on September 1st.

Last but certainly not least,  take a look at how Miami spent their day off.  First Dodgeball, now Baseball?? Team chemistry and having  fun are often underrated components of a big season.  Take a look below.
