On Monday UM announced that Senior QB Jake Heaps, who is battling for a starting spot with true freshman Brad Kaaya. had sat out the 'Canes second and last scrimmage to rest his arm.
This of course fueled speculation that Heaps might be injured.
This morning on WQAM, Head Coach Al Golden confirmed that it was his decision to rest Heaps, but it was mostly precautionary.

Jake Heaps is here without any wraps on his arm.

In the WQAM interview, Golden basically summarized that they had seen enough of Heaps to evaluate him with out the scrimmage.
It sounds like Kaaya had a very good day on Monday as well, and some are ready for the Kaaya era to begin ASAP.
But even if the talented freshman is ready to roll, having a senior option in the mix can't hurt things, so Heaps' apparent clean bill of health is good news.
Things remain complicated as the 'Canes search for the best option behind center on Labor Day. It will be even more intriguing when Ryan Williams is back to 100% as well.
As always stay tuned.
