John Houston and Rasheem Green eliminate Miami

Highly coveted 5-star teammates from Serra HS (Gardena, CA), OLB John Houston and DT Rasheem Green announced on Friday afternoon that they would not be picking Miami for their college destination.

While this is a negative event for Miami, this was not unexpected. Pulling players from California is hard to do for Miami. Yes, I know we have Brad Kaaya and Bar Milo (Kaaya's HS teammate) soon to follow. But, that's the exception, not the rule.

Houston was never really considering Miami. Once he left his official visit (he came during FSU week), and had tepid remarks and reactions,t hat much was clear. Also, he took HIS ENTIRE FAMILY with him on his USC visit. I'm talking parents, siblings, and grandparents. Yeah, he's all USC.

Unlike Houston, Green was actually considering Miami. The Canes, which made it to his 4 finalists with Arizona State, Oregon, and favorites USC, repeatedly said that all 4 were on equal ground. But, when he had to cut his list and begin to let teams know about his intentions, Miami was dropped.

Obviously, missing on players of Houston and Green's caliber is a negative, but you can't be too mad about it if you're being honest. Yes, Miami needs DTs and LBs in a bad way, but neither player was assured to be in this class. Add to the fact that many in recruiting circles have nicknamed their HS "USCerra" (because all their top players go to USC) and no Serra product has committed too/attended any school east of The University of Texas, and you can see what a tough pull either would have been, let alone both.

Where do we go now? At LB, I honestly have no idea. At DT, we have Kendrick Norton and Kevin Scott on the board. More about this another time, though.

Lamar Jackson visits Miami

As the Canes look for a QB to add to the 2015 class, Louisville commit Lamar Jackson (Boynton Beach, FL) is the latest player to be contacted by Miami. Jackson is a 3-star recruit, and had a whirlwind week in connection to Miami.

Al Golden and James Coley visited Jackson at his HS on Wednesday. Jackson then took an Official Visit to Coral Gables on Thursday before travelling to UF for his weekend visit. Jackson is said to be considering Miami, UF, Louisville, and Mississippi State for his collegiate destination.

Sheldrick Redwine visits Miami, too

Another Louisville commit, Killian CB Sheldrick Redwine (Miami, FL) also decided to Officially Visit Coral Gables this weekend. If the name of his HS sounds familiar, it should. Redwine was HS teammates with superstar DB Jaquan Johnson, an early enrollee.

With Miami desperately looking for DBs to close out this class, Redwine could be just the player the Canes are looking for. It's too early to tell how this visit will impact Redwine's recruitment, but having Johnson on campus already to be his host and primary recruiter could pay big dividends on Wednesday.

Sam Bruce: U.S. Army All-American

The top rated player committed in the #Swag16 recruiting class, St. Thomas Aquinas WR Sam Bruce (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) announced on twitter that he will be playing in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American game.

Congratulations, Sam!
