Florida Dominates Top 5 Team Ole Miss At Home, Shocks the World In Process
Well, I didn't see this one coming. Many pundits at the beginning of the year (including myself) had this as a rebuilding season for the newly established Head Coach Jim McElwain and his staff but he's worked magic the first five weeks of the season. After dominating Ole Miss it looks like the Gators have settled on their quarterback of the future, Will Grier as he shredded the rebels for 271 passing yards on 24 of 29 passing attempts; throw in 4 touchdowns as well and it looks like backup Treon Harris maybe riding the pine for the foreseeable future.
Florida State Gets By Wake But Loses Star Running Back
FSU struggled mightily on offense again scoring only 24 points against the lowly Wake Forest Deamon Deacons but got the win. More importantly, what they lost however was their star running back Dalvin Cook after just two carries to a strained hamstring. With Hurricanes coming to town the Noles will need all hands on deck for the rivalry game. As of mid-week it's quationable to if Cook plays Saturday night.
Miami Mismanages Possessions and Personnel in Loss to Cincinnati
Whether it was playing players in the first half who simply haven't shown they deserve the burn or calling timeouts too early in the game, Miami didn't display the poise to win on the road outside the state of Florida in week 4. Now they go on the road to play a fundamentally sound Seminoles team who will look to continue the streak of wins against the Canes going. Is a win here enough to keep Coach Al Golden for the long term? Only time will tell.
FIU Gets Bounced In "Surprise" Road Loss to UMASS
This loss maybe a watermark game for the Golden Panthers. Yes, they beat UCF in the opener in shocking fashion but as the season has progressed we've realized that the win may have been a bit of a façade for the development of the FIU program. This contest was on the road against the Minutemen but the fact of the matter is UMASS is a newly minted member of 1A. FIU should not have let this one get away, period.
South Florida Holds Memphis to 24 Points But Can't Keep Pace
After watching the Cincinnati-Memphis tilt a few weeks ago the Bulls had to be loathing the challenge they had before them. Trying to stop the Tigers offense would be daunting and it's not like their own offense was putting up big numbers. In the end they managed to wrangle the Tigers to only 425 yards of total offense in the loss while gaining 377 themselves. They just couldn't stop the aerial attack that Memphis employed and that was the difference as the Bulls gave up 305 yards and two touchdowns.
UCF Losses to Tulane, Bar Still Promises to Giveaway Free Drinks Until a Victory
Well... The engine maybe revving on the car that's going to usher George O'Leary out of UCF. This team has completely cratered this year under his watch, almost to unfathomable depths. This used to be a team that thought anything less than 8 wins was an utter disappointment. Well, it looks like they'll need a miracle to even pull off 6 wins and go bowling.
