The 6'10" 206lb Huell is a highly touted player and carries a 5-star rank by all the notable recruiting services. ESPN has him rated as the number 21 player in this class, and both Rivals and 247Sports have him at number 23. No matter how you slice it, this is a major, major commitment for the Canes.
Huell chose Miami over South Carolina, his other finalist, and a host of offers including Florida State, Mississippi State, Florida, Kansas, and North Carolina.
Huell is a talented stretch 4 and this commitment is seismic for the University of Miami Men's Basketball program. Huell is the most talented player to come out of South Florida in years. He's the type of talent that Miami has sorely needed, and his commitment strengthens this program immeasurably.
Hailing from local basketball powerhouse Miami Norland HS (Duke Johnson's alma mater and a team looking for an unprecedented 5th consecutive State Championship), keeping Huell home in the 305 is the biggest recruiting win to date for Coach Jim Larrañaga and staff. AND, it sets the tone that Miami is a team to be reckoned with in keeping talented South Florida players home, a trend that we will look to continue with 2017 7'1" superstar C Zach Brown (Miami Senior HS), a top 20 player in his class.
Huell is the crown jewel of the 2016 recruiting class. Along with 4-stars Rodney Miller and Bruce Brown, this is the most talented recruiting class in the history of Miami Hurricanes basketball.
