CORAL GABLES, Fla. - University of Miami senior Tonye Jekiri has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Jekiri was named to the Puerto Rico Tip-Off All-Tournament Team, leading Miami to the championship after defeating No. 22/20 Butler, No. 16 Utah and Mississippi State.
In three games, the 7-footer averaged 13.3 points, 11.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 28.0 minutes. He was 15-21 (71.4%) from the field and 10-11 (90.9%) at the line.
In the championship game, Jekiri posted 12 points and 12 rebounds, along with a pair of blocks and an assist against No. 22/20 Butler. He was 4-6 from the field and 4-4 at the line.
Against No. 16 Utah and national center of the year nominee Jakob Poeltl, Jekiri posted his career high 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. He was 8-10 from the field and 4-5 from the stripe in 32 minutes. He also had a steal, assist and block.
In the opening game against Mississippi State, the Nigerian pulled down 10 rebounds and scored eight points, also adding two assists and a block.
Miami returns to the BankUnited Center on Friday, Nov. 27 to face Northeastern at 4 p.m. The game will be delivered on ESPN3 and on WHIM 1080 radio in Miami.
