Welcome to the U, Desmond Phillips

Miami continues to have some momentum on the recruiting trail as local standout ATH Desmond Phillips commits to the Canes.

Early on Wednesday, Miami got some good news on the recruiting front.

Shortly after this, confirmation on who the new commit is:

Joining the Canes commit group is Miami Jackson ATH Desmond Phillips. A dynamic playmaker who saw the field at QB, RB, WR, CB, S, and returner for the Generals, Phillips is a player who can develop very nicely in the future.

The biggest/best part of Phillips' game is his speed. He's a legit 4.4 kid uses his athletic gifts well on the field. He's not just a player who tests well at combines. That speed translates to the field.

Phillips, who was once committed to Toledo to play QB, will almost definitely transition to WR at the collegiate level. He could, however, be used in special or trick plays. Phillips is the 18th commit in the 2016 class, and joins Sam BruceReginald Henderson, and Dionte Mullins as WR commits (this of course assumes Phillips will play WR in college).

I know there will be a good amount of you who say "ugh. whatever. we're fighting with Toledo for recruits", but that shouldn't matter. Phillips has the skills and talent to play at Miami. He was BY FAR the best player Toledo had committed. While he's not the best player Miami has committed, Phillips is a good addition to this class, and the embodiment of what a Miami coaching staff should be doing: identifying top talents locally and, regardless of connection or commitment, getting them to come to the U.

I know one small monologue from me won't change your mind. But, maybe Phillips' HUDL highlights will. You can see them right here:
