Miami Hurricanes Basketball Player Profile: Sheldon McClellan

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Player Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's roster for 2015-16. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the court.

Sheldon McClellan

Senior G 6'5 200 Houston, Texas (Texas) (Bellaire HS)

2014-15 Stats: 38 games, 14.5 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 35.8% 3P%

Scouting Report:

  • Excellent athlete with striking quickness, and tremendous leaping ability

  • Only Miami player to start all 38 games last season
  • Currently ranked the 89th NBA prospect by DraftExpress.com
  • Played his first two seasons at University of Texas-Austin, transferred to UM in 2013
  • Tremendous scoring ability with a knack for getting to the foul line
  • Communications major who's favorite UM athlete is Jack McClinton and favorite TV show is Fresh Prince of Bel Air
  • Sheldon participated in adidas Nations Top NCAA Prospects camp this summer

Summary:  Last season when Angel Rodriguez went into a slump and was later injured "Mac" stepped more into the leadership role and helped guide the Canes all the way to the NIT Championship game. Look for Sheldon to take his SportsCenter Top10 dunks to a new level this year and help lift Miami to the NCAA Tournament in March. McClellan has shown steady improvement in his overall game but at times was a little too unselfish.  Miami will need him to increase his scoring output, improve his long distance shooting and use his athleticism if it hopes to have a big year.
