Miami Basketball Faces Another Do or Die Tomorrow Vs Virginia Tech at Noon

The win over Pitt will be meaningless to their NCAA hopes if they can not back it up with a win over the Hokies.

Robert Mayer-USA TODAY Sports

UM showed a lot of grit and determination in Wednesday's 67-63 road victory over Pittsburgh.

Sheldon McClellan played through a groin injury to score 20 big points, Davon Reed was a monster on both ends and tied his career high with 19, ACC Most Improved Candidate Tonye Jekiri has another double-double, and the 'Canes overcame the absence of Angel Rodriguez to come up victorious with their backs again the walls.

In the words of the immortal Rocky Balboa, they took the hits and kept moving forward.

The win over the Panthers raised their RPI from 70 to 64.

And when we look back on this one after the season ends, it will be a definite highlight.

But consistency has not been a strong point for Miami (19-11, 9-8) this season.

If they can not repeat their road warrior act tomorrow Vs VT, the win over Pitt will be nullified as an NCAA Tournament resume asset.

The Hokies (10-20, 2-15) have been more dangerous than their record indicates, especially at home.

Just ask Duke, who was on the ropes Vs VT back on 2/25, and needed OT to squeeze out a 91-86 win.

Their inside game may not keep opponents up at night, but they love to bomb away on the perimeter , and they make their fair share (39.3% on triples as a team).

Adam Smith (43.6% 3P%) and Justin Bibbs (43.3 3P%) especially need to be accounted for from deep.

All season long this has been just the type of game that the Hurricanes struggle with.

Can they buck the trend?

Their NCAA Tournament lives depend on it.
