Red Hot Hurricanes Baseball Win 11th Straight, Destroy GT 22-1

Richard Lewis/Miami Athletics

Seemingly surging at just the right time, UM stayed red hot and made a statement with a huge and dominating win tonight over Georgia Tech, 22-1 from Coral Gables.

Miami got off to a quick start.

In the bottom of the first inning Dick Howser Award Semifinalist David Thompson followed up Zack Collins 2 run tripled by cracking a 2 run homer, putting the Hurricanes up 4-0.

Collins would add another ribbie in the 2nd when he was hit by pitch with the bases loaded.

Surging LF Jacob Heyward kept the pressure on and doubled in another run in the 3rd to make it 6-0.

Garrett Kennedy and Chris Barr added to the onslaught with RBIs of their own, and at the end of 3 innings this one was a blow out, with the 'Canes ahead 11-0.

The rest was academic.

Thompson would finish with an incredible 9 RBIs, capping his evening with a grand slam in the 7th.

And while GT went to reliever after reliever to try and stop the bleeding, Miami starter Andy Suarez cruised.

Suarez would scatter one unearned run and 4 hits over 6 very strong innings to get the win.

The series concludes tomorrow at 1 PM from the Light, as Enrique Sosa (7-3, 3.76) takes the mound for the Hurricanes Vs Brandon Gold (7-2 2.77).

With the 'Canes playing to host a regional and possibly earn a National Seed, tomorrow's finale is still a very important game.
