Miami Football 2015 Player Profile: Al-Quadin Muhammad

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Player Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile players from each position that they think should get more face time. They will recap their previous year, or in some cases, preview what may be to come. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

Al-Quadin Muhammad

RS Sophomore - DE-LB - 6'3 260 - Irvington, NJ (Don Bosco Prep)

Recorded 2 sacks as true freshman in 2013.

Suspended all of 2014 for off the field disciplinary issue.

Former 4 star prospect and Army All-American coming out of H.S.

Physical specimen, who tied for team lead in the squat (590 pounds) this spring.

UM fans and coaches are happy to see him back.  Why you ask?  See below:

Summary: Of all of UM's pass rushing specialists/edge front defenders(Chad Thomas and Tyriq McCord included), AQM is the most physically imposing and has the highest upside, in my opinion.  He moves so well for a 6'3 260 pound man, and can flat out  put on offensive lineman on his back (just ask Taylor Gadbois and/or Jahair Jones). It would seem nothing can stop him, except himself.  Hopefully all of his off the field issues are behind him. The Hurricanes defense needs him in the worst way. If he stays healthy and out of trouble, there is absolutely no reason why Muhammad can't be a double digit sack guy. And his base strength should also help him hold the edge well against the run.  Of course, pure talent alone does not always translate to on the field production.  Nonetheless when all is said and done. I would be shocked if AQM isn't Miami's best DE since Calais Campbell.  With all his talent, if he's only a part time player and isn't at minimum mentioned among All Conference players, it should be viewed as a disappointment.

Stay tuned for more player profiles from SOTU as we count down to kick off.
