Canes Target and 4-star 2017 QB Jake Allen commits to Florida

A few short moments ago, St. Thomas Aquinas 2017 QB Jake Allen committed to the University of Florida.

This shouldn't surprise any Hurricanes fan. When Miami offered Allen earlier this summer at the 7on7 tournament held at Greentree, there was some optimism that the future of the QB position would be all but locked in for the Canes.

Brad Kaaya had mentioned how much Allen liked the University of Miami and how promising the next few years looked with the talent coming in from #Swag16 and #Squad17. However, a few days later Allen took an official visit to UF where he was pretty much sold.

When you grow up a fan of a certain school, it's pretty hard to turn down the possibility of being that school's star QB for four years (unless you're one of countless Miami de-commits in the last few years.)

With Allen's commitment to UF, the immediate reaction for Canes fans is  "Oh, now another UF player close to Sam Bruce will be in his ear." (The other player being obviously RB Jordan Scarlett). But not necessarily.

Bruce has mentioned multiple times this year that his commitment is as strong as can be, and that the main reason for that is his mentor and WR coach at the U, Kevin Beard. Unless Beard decides to suddenly jump ship and take his talents to Gainesville, it will be hard for a 2017 QB to convince his 2016 WR to go to UF. But stranger things have happened.
