Miami Football 2015 Player Profile: Anthony Moten

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Player Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile players from each position that they think should get more face time. They will recap their previous year, or in some cases, preview what may be to come. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

Anthony Moten

Sophomore - DT - 6'4 299 - Ft, Lauderdale, Fl (St. Thomas Aquinas)

Saw action in just 4 games as a freshman, and recorded 2 tackles.

Semper Fidelis All-American coming out of H.S.

Is hoping for a big season in 2015, and appears to be working his way up the DT depth chart.

Possesses above average athleticism for a big man, and a great first step.

Summary: Moten is another player who inexplicably saw just enough action as a freshman to lose a year of eligibility. Has the upside to compete with players like Courtel Jenkins, Calvin Heurtelou, Michael Wyche, and Ufomba Kamalu for snaps on the interior defensive line.  Should benefit should UM go to more one gap schemes, as rumored.  Moten is not quite as stout as say Wyche or Jenkins, but his H.S. film would seem to indicate he could be a better pass rusher than some of Miami's other DTs. His burst out of a three point stance should help him eventually pick up a few sacks this year and beyond.  Look for Moten to get a lot more PT this season, and factor in to the DT rotation regularly.

Stay tuned for more player profiles from SOTU as we count down to kick off.
