Canes commits among many HSFB stars who will play on TV this weekend.

Take a look at the TV schedule for this week's HSFB games, many of which feature players committed to, or being pursued by, the Canes.

Welcome to HSFB season, kids!

This is when recruiting starts to pick up even more, with players proving their worth on the field of play against other padded players. This is different than the shorts-and-t-shirt nature of the summer recruiting circuit.

For Miami, the #Swag16 class (and the #Squad17 class, for that matter) will be heavily displayed in opening week games broadcast on TV and the Internet. Here's your schedule:

QB Jack Allison - Friday, 7pm, Online Stream

Palmetto HS is trying to put all their games up on a live-stream for viewing this season. You'll be able to watch Captain Jack and the Tigers take on Fort Myers tonight at 7pm via the webstream.

Booker T. Washington vs. St. Thomas Aquinas - Friday, 8pm, ESPN

I listed the name of this game rather than the players because there are SO MANY elite level prospects who will be on display in this matchup.

Booker T, who enters on a 42 game winning streak, look to prove that they're still THE dominant team in South Florida. St. Thomas, who has arguably the most FBS/high D1 talent of any team in America on their roster, look to continue their trend of beating good teams (and some would say beating good Dade County teams just after their peak).

This game, televised nationally on ESPN at 8pm on Friday, will be a dream for anyone who follows recruiting (or, just likes elite HSFB action). Here are the names who will be on the field:

St. Thomas Aquinas

Booker T. Washington
  • No high profile names right now, but I expect someone to become a household name off the strength of a strong showing against STA tonight.

Miami Central at DeMatha (Md) - Saturday, Noon, ESPN

Miami Central has been the 2nd best team in Dade County, only having lost to Booker T. Washington in each of the last 3 years. Once known as a traditional basketball powerhouse under former coach Morgan Wooten, DeMatha has become a football powerhouse in the Maryland/DC area over recent years as well.

Miramar vs IMG Academy - Sunday, 2pm, ESPNU

After a scandal filled 2014 that saw Miramar vacate their rightfully earned playoff berth, the Patriots look to show the State, and the Nation, that the program is still one of the elites. With new head coach Pierre Senatus, a longtime Booker T. Washington assistant, at the helm, the Patriots will surely try to ride their notoriously stingy Darkside Defense to an upset victory.

IMG academy, on the other hand, has a roster that is absolutely LOADED with elite talent. That talent however didn't shine through in their preseason kickoff classic, which they lost to American Heritage. Even in spite of that setback, the Ascenders have to be heavy favorites to win this game against Miramar.

IMG Academy

Other Games

These games don't feature Canes targets or commits, but if you like elite level HSFB, these are games for you to watch:

  • Arlington (TX) Martin vs. DeSoto (TX) - Saturday, 5pm, ESPN2
  • Peachtree (GA) Ridge vs. Archer (GA) - Saturday, 7pm, ESPNU
  • Concord (CA) De La Salle vs. Euless (TX) Trinity - Some say this is the National Game of the week!
    Saturday, 9pm, ESPN2
  • Chandler (Ariz) vs. Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman - Another GOTW type game
    Saturday, 10pm, ESPNU

Final Note

Although they won't be televised, the rest of the Swag16 commits kick off their regular season schedules this week. We wish them all good luck, and good health through their Senior seasons. And, we'll have the recaps of all the action early next week.

Happy HS Football weekend, you guys!!!
