First 2015 Depth Chart released

After a full month of camp, the Canes released a depth chart on Sunday night.

Mike Seay

Sunday night gave us a glimpse into the depth chart on Twitter. Let's not delay and jump right into it:

That news broke minutes after we found out that Gus Edwards will miss the 2015 season with an undisclosed foot injury.

UPDATE: got the depth chart email, so here's the full thing

Offense (Pro) - 8/31
WR (X) LT LG C RG RT TE SLOT WR (Z)
Rashawn Scott Trevor Darling Alex Gall Nick Linder Danny Isidora Sunny Odogwu Stan Dobard Stacy Coley Herb Waters
Lawrence Cager Kc McDermott Tyler Gauthier Hunter Knighton Joe Brown Tyree St. Louis Jake O'Donnell OR Braxton Berrios Stacy Coley
Jerome Washington Malcolm Lewis
QB FB RB H-Back
Brad Kaaya Gage Batten Joseph Yearby OR Chris Herndon
Malik Rosier Walter Tucker Mark Walton David Njoku
Trayone Gray
Thoughts:
  • Brad Kaaya at QB, duh
  • Mark Walton is going to be a huge factor. Already listed as an OR starter for the opener with Joseph Yearby. That talk of Walton being the unquestioned starter by game 4 or 5 (which we'ver heard)? Might be something to that.
  • Herb Waters, Rashawn Scott, and Stacy Coley at the 3 WR spots works for me. Interesting to see Coley starting at slot and not X or Z.
  • No mention of Tyre Brady or Darrel Langham at WR. Hmm....
  • Standish Dobard at TE, duh
  • OL was the 5 I named in my prediction article: Trevor Darling, Alex Gall, Nick Linder, Danny Isidora, and Sunny Odogwu.
  • Want to see what the rest of the DC looks like. Where are guys like Lawrence Cager and David Njoku listed?
  • Batten (who?) over Tucker at FB? Could that be to free up Tucker to play some RB now that Edwards is out for the year?

Defense (3-4) - 8/31
End NT DT
Ufomba Kamalu Calvin Heurtelou Courtel Jenkins
Chad Thomas Kendrick Norton Anthony Moten
RJ McIntosh Michael Wyche
OLB ILB ILB RUSH
Darrion Owens Raphael Kirby Jermaine Grace Trent Harris
Tyriq McCord Terry McCray Marques Gayot Demetrius Jackson OR
Al-Quaddin Muhammad
CB S S

CB

Tracy Howard Dallas Crawford Deon Bush OR Artie Burns
Corn Elder Rayshawn Jenkins Jamal Carter Sheldrick Redwine
Jaquan Johnson

Thoughts
  • No Chad Thomas or Al-Quaddin Muhammad starting on Defense. I'm flabbergasted by this.
  • Courtel Jenkins starting up from at DT. Solid spot for him after a good freshman year in limited snaps.
  • Where are Kendrick Norton and Richard McIntosh listed on the depth chart?
  • Trent Harris at OLB/Rush end. Gotta embed a tweet here
  • Jermaine Grace, Raphael Kirby, and Darrion Owens are by far the best players at LB. That's the group. Some are surprised Tyriq McCord isn't starting. I'm not.
  • Tracy Howard and Artie Burns starting at outside CB. They have talent, time to step up.
  • Corn Elder starting at Nickel. I like him there because his short area quickness plays better inside than Howard or Burns.
  • Dallas Crawford at 1 Safety is curious. He's a good player, but I'd like to see a different starting group.
  • The OTHER safety w/DC? Deon Bush OR Jamal Carter. Those 2, IMO, should be the starters together.
  • And, that means Rayshawn Jenkins is behind Crawford. And Jaquan Johnson is behind those 4.
And, adding the specialists....

Special Teams - 8/31
P K KO Holder
Justin Vogel Michael Badgley Jon Semerene Justin Vogel
Michael Badgley Jon Semerene Justin Vogel Malik Rosier
Long Snap Short Snap KR PR
Jordan Butler OR Frank Gabriel Stacy Coley Braxton Berrios
Frank Gabriel Jordon Butler Mark Walton Stacy Coley

Maybe some answers?

So, those are your starters. What say you, Canes?
