Miami Freshman Profile: Sheldrick Redwine

In an effort to keep even the most hardcore Miami fan up to date on their favorite players, SOTU will be running a Freshman Profile series. In these posts, our writers will profile UM's newcomers for 2015. That way, when the season get's here, you hopefully will have a new found love for the team on the field.

Sheldrick Redwine

CB - 6'1" 183lbs - Killian HS, Miami, FL

A player who came onto the Canes' recruiting radar late in the 2015 cycle, Sheldrick Redwine has the size and skills that many other programs coveted. He chose Miami over 29 other scholarship offers including ones from Arkansas, Auburn, Louisville, Minnesota,  and Texas.

Redwine is a player that many Canes fans wanted Miami to go after both for his own skills and abilities, and his close connection to fellow 2015 signee Jaquan Johnson, Redwine's HS teammate. For a long time, it looked as though Redwine would not be heavily pursued by Miami, but several changes near National Signing day made it so that the staff finally went after him hard, much to the joy of many Canes fans.

With only 3 Corners with game experience (Artie Burns, Corn Elder, and Tracy Howard), Miami will be looking for another reliable player at that position. Much in the same vein as his HS teammate Johnson, Redwine figures to get a good chance to prove that he can be that guy.

Throughout the summer conditioning sessions, Redwine earned high reviews for his work ethic, as well as his skills. If he continues to work at the level which he has already established, I see no reason why he can't and won't see playing time this season in the secondary. And, like most freshmen, it wouldn't surprise me to see Redwine start by earning his keep on Special Teams.
