COLLINS, GARCIA PICK UP PRESEASON ACCOLADES

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami juniors Zack Collins and Bryan Garcia were among those recognized as Perfect Game Preseason All-Americans Monday. Collins and Garcia, who also earned preseason recognition from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper in late December, were both named to the second team by Perfect Game. Collins was one of the top power hitters in the nation as a sophomore in 2015. The junior slugger, who started 66 of 67 possible games a season ago, hit .302 with 15 home runs and 70 RBI. The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native was named to the 2015 All-ACC First Team and was a Rawlings third-team All-American. In just two seasons with the Hurricanes, Collins has hit a combined. 300 and totaled 26 home runs and 124 RBI. He has amassed 28 doubles, eight triples and 99 walks in his first two years at Miami. Garcia served as Miami’s closer for the second straight season in 2015. The righthander continued his ascent in the Miami record books with 10 more saves in 2015, finishing with a 6-2 record and a 2.50 ERA in 39.2 innings. The Miami native was named to the 2015 All-ACC Third Team. Garcia enters 2016 ranked fifth in all-time saves at Miami (25) and has a career 2.08 ERA with 94 strikeouts in 91.0 innings. His career record at Miami stands at an impressive 13-6. Miami was ranked No. 4 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper’s annual preseason rankings released in December. The ranking marked Miami’s best from the publication since 2005, when the Hurricanes checked in at No. 2.
