Welcome to the U, Jeff James, maybe?

What looked like a commit for Miami may not be. Confused? I'll try to explain

Aaron Doster-USA TODAY Sports

On Saturday afternoon, Miami added to the 2016 class when S Jeff James committed to the Hurricanes.

.....OR DID HE?!?!

James, whose uncle is Hurricanes legend Edgerrin James, is a rangy Safety who figures to have his biggest impact for Miami a few years down the line. The younger James is rail thin and in need of a redshirt year for some much needed physical development.

But, according to David Lake of 247Sports' Miami site InsideTheU.com, James is NOT a take for Miami right now. His offer is non-committable, if there's an offer at all (the offer had been previously reported by multiple sources). Obviously, the fact that this is a close relative of an all-time great Hurricane complicates this situation.

So, to recap: James himself says he's committed. At least 1 recruiting reporter says that is false.

Somebody's wrong here. And we'll find out who in time, I'd guess.

James was offered shortly after Mark Richt took the head coach job, and Miami is his biggest offer. While some will see this as the staff reaching for a player without much recruiting buzz or stars, some may also see this as a smart move and evidence that Richt and company have an evaluation process that they trust. It remains to be seen which side is right on this one.

Enough talking, it's highlight time.

Welcome to the U, Jeff!
