Miami Basketball Beats BC In Wellness Center Basketball Game, Increase Sales of Advil In South Florida, Win 67-53

The 'Canes hoops team needed a win to break their two-game ACC losing streak and looked to beat-up on a struggling Boston College squad.

Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

If you've ever played pick-up games at the Wellness Center, you've seen this game over and over and over. Heck, as a student at Miami, I've played in this game a thousand times over. Slop, ridiculous plays that looked like video game glitches, and more slop. Fortunately, the 'Canes de-slopped at certain times and it was enough to beat Boston College.

The 'Canes went into Chestnut Hill and started their offensive attack quickly, springing out to a 7-3 lead. Kamari Murphy led the way early, but the Golden Eagles weren't ready to fold.

Ivan Cruz Uceda had one of the worst-looking drives in the history of basketball which led to a three by Eli Carter.

The game went into slop-fest mode with a bunch of bricks and turnovers, but Miami got the upper-hand in the sequence with a James Palmer layup.

As the announcers stated (correctly for once) Miami could have been up a baker's dozen, but were ahead 14-10.

Sheldon McClellan converted a ridiculous drive to the hoop, but BC kept pace with the 'Canes. A nice basket by Ivan Cruz Uceda was followed up by a nifty behind-the-back Legolas-like pass from Palmer to Ja'Quan Newton on the fast-break.

Just watching this game you couldn't help but figure that Miami would go on a soul-crushing run at any moment, but Carter wasn't going to let it happen - at least not yet. The reality is that Miami didn't seem to want it. They slopped the ball around, missed point-blank shots,  took some terrible shots and found themselves down 24-23 with just over 4 minutes to play in the first half.

Somehow the 'Canes bungled their way to a 29-28 halftime lead. On the way to the locker room you could see steam coming out of Coach Larranaga's ears.

Davon Reed started the scoring in the 2nd half, but BC seemed resolute to stay in the game. Angel Rodriguez slashed to the hoop and converted the bucket and the harm and before you knew it, the Senior PG seemed to find some mojo. He slashed to the hoop for another bucket and then found McClellan beyond the arc on a drive and dish for three. Later on, Rodriguez was inexplicably fouled on a 3-point attempt and sank all his freebies.

Miami came out with a better game-plan on both ends of the floor and opened up a 45-37 lead with 13:55 to play.

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Freshman Jerome Robinson nailed a 3 and closed the gap to a 4-point 'Canes lead. But the 'Canes played with desperation and Kamari Murphy converted a layup (missed the FT) to put the 'Canes up 9 with just over 10 to play.

Robinson wasn't done. BC seemed to feed off his energy and stormed back to within striking distance and then some, closing the gap to a 52-49 with 6:41 to go.

Newton hit a runner off a Rodriguez dish and seemed to be fired up. After a missed 3-ball by Robinson, Tonye Jekiri traveled, giving BC another chance they fortunately squandered. Jekiri had 1,000 rebounds, but somehow couldn't score against BC.

Smelling blood in the water, McClellan nailed a baseline jumper and the 'Canes had a late-game run that propelled them to victory. While the final score looked like the result was a blow-out, it wasn't.  It was hard to watch, but congrats to the 'Canes for breaking the 2-game skid.
