Coaching Staff daily update: 1/5. The final stretch

With most spots on the Miami Hurricanes coaching staff filled, Mark Richt looks to put the finishing touches on the full group in the next few days (hopefully).

Today's update begins now:

10:30 AM Update

Maybe there's hope for Kevin Beard staying on staff yet.

We'll see.

Only 2 spots left

Yesterday, Miami hired Stacy Searels, Mike Rumph, and Ephraim Banda to the coaching staff. We'll get into those individuals later, but the point I wanted to bring up is that, after these hires, Miami now has 7 assistants. And, as we discussed in yesterday's update, the NCAA bylaws for staffing (11.7.2) states that a team can have no more than 9 assistant coaches.

So, a look at the current list:

Open positions for coaches:

  • QB coach - (Richt?)
  • WR coach (Beard? Other)
  • TE coach
  • LB coach (Diaz)
For me, the decision is easy: CMR and Diaz coach the position they've previously worked with (QB and LB, respectively), keep Kevin Beard as Wide Receivers coach, and get somebody to coach Tight Ends. But, that's just me. We'll see what the final list looks like eventually.

1/4 recap
