Another update. This one with movement.

Already today, we've gotten news.

8:05 PM Update

Per Thayer Evans of Sports Illustrated, USF WR coach Ron Dugans will take the same job at Miami.

Dugans is widely regarded as a good coach. He previously coached at Louisville with Charlie Strong in this same position.

And with that, the staff is (reportedly) finished.

4:50PM Update

Strength and conditioning staff announced. This confirms previous reports.

4:45PM update

Per Susan Miller Degnan of The Miami Herald, further staff responsibilities have been revealed.

So, with Diaz coaching LBs and Jon Richt coaching QBs, that leaves WR as the only open position group on the staff.

And, with 8 assistant coaches, there's only 1 open coaching spot left.

So now, we wait and see who the WR coach will be. RUMORS at this point are Ron Dugans and Billy Napier as leading linked candidates.

More as it's available.

12:45 PM Update

Per Susan Miller Degnan of the Miami Herald, Jon Richt will serve in an on-field coaching role.

Updating from yesterday, the list of coaches is now:

  • Head Coach - Mark Richt
  • Assistant 1 - Thomas Brown (RB/Co-OC)
  • Assistant 2 - Todd Hartley (TE/Special Teams)
  • Assistant 3 - Stacy Searels (OL)
  • Assistant 4 - Manny Diaz (DC/LBs)
  • Assistant 5 - Craig Kuligowski (DL)
  • Assistant 6 - Mike Rumph (CB)
  • Assistant 7 - Ephraim Banda (S)
  • Assistant 8 - Jon Richt (unspecified position QBs)
And, following this report, that means that there is one (1) open assistant coaching spot left. And, we still have yet to hear which position the younger Richt will coach.

So, there's that. More when it's available.

Kevin Beard will not be Retained

You see the headline.

Since Beard interviewed a couple of days ago, he was awaiting Mark Richt's decision. With the multiple reports that he was informed just today that he won't be returning, it stands to reason that Richt got a "yes" from the WR coach he's been pursuing. Who that is remains to be seen.

As for Beard, he has a bright future in coaching. The WRs developed in his only year here at Miami, and I'm sure he will have many opportunities in the future.

Obviously, the other part of this is "what happens with Sam Bruce?!" For now, Bruce is committed. But, I fully expect his recruitment to pick up but A LOT in these next 26 days running up to National Signing Day.

1/7 Update

Yesterday's update is here for your viewing pleasure.

That's all for now.
