Miami added a big piece to their 2017 recruiting class when 3-star S Amari Carter committed to the Hurricanes earlier today.

Carter, a star player at Palm Beach Gardens HS (Palm Beach Gardens, FL), was arguably Miami's biggest target on the board at Safety, so getting him to commit is a big deal. He's fast and physical, and has all the qualities that S coach Ephraim Banda and DC Manny Diaz look for in a defender.

This is unquestionably a big get for Miami. In recent weeks and months, Notre Dame had moved to the forefront of Carter's recruitment as the biggest challenger to Miami. With notable players from Palm Beach Gardens having signed with the Irish in the last 2 recruiting classes (LB Te'Von Coney in 2015 and S Devin Studstill in 2016 — both starters now for the Irish), Notre Dame has a strong connection to the PBG program. That, however, wasn't enough for the Irish to close on Carter.

A physical 6'2" 185lb Safety, Carter comes off a 2015 season in which he had 60 tackles and 3 interceptions, 2 of which he returned for touchdowns. Carter is a big time player, and figures only to get better in the future.

As previously noted, Carter committed to Miami over Notre Dame, and a list of 18 other offers from around the country. He joins Brian Edwards, Billy Gibson, and Trajan Bandy as DB commits in Miami's 2017 recruiting class. You can see his HUDL highlights below:
