On Tuesday afternoon, Miami added another talented player to the 2017 recruiting class when 3-star S Derrick Smith committed to the Canes.

Smith spoke about his pledge to Miami with a recruiting writer, and the move was analyzed by several others:

Smith is a physical Safety, and not afraid to show it. See the link below for more on that.

A key piece in Jacksonville (FL) Trinity Christian’s State Championship team, the 6’3” 190lb Smith picked Miami over 16 other reported offers, including North Carolina, North Carolina State, Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Virginia Tech. Smith ended the 2016 HSFB season with 52 tackles and 3 interceptions on the year.

Smith is the 5th DB prospect committed to Miami in the 2017 recruiting class. He joins 4-stars ATH DeeJay Dallas and CB Trajan Bandy, and 3-stars S Amari Carter and Billy Gibson at this position group in this class.

For an even better idea of the kind of player Miami is getting in Smith, check out his HUDL highlights below.
