West Virginia comes into the Russell Athletic Bowl game ranked at No. 16, but an unranked Miami team is favored to win the game by ESPN. This is probably a surprise for Miami fans, as the ‘Canes have had their struggles this season.
Taking a closer look at the West Virginia’s schedule this season, it is noticeable that most of their wins came against opponents with a losing record, in fact they only have two wins against teams that finished the season above .500, and one of those two wins was against Youngstown State.
Miami, a team with four losses was able to amass three wins against opponents that finished the season with a winning record.
West Virginia’s biggest win of the season came against Kansas State (8-4), a game that they won by one point. The mountaineers were down by 13 points entering the fourth quarter, when they scored two touchdowns to seal the game.
